Spring time '20 is predicted to be wetter than average with warmer nights.

Despite some restrictions still in place, a lot of us are determined to have a semi-normal end to the year. It's a season that can fill your calendar with tons of social events (think Halloween parties, long weekend getaways and trips to the beach before it gets too hot). There also loads of events all over the state to take advantage of. On top of this all, we have beautiful weather to accompany it.

I have compiled a short list of fun things to do this spring that are covid safe, with accompanying outfits to get that Insta-worthy shot.

Hiking/Nature Walks

Springtime is the perfect season to enjoy nature walks or more strenuous hikes. Temperatures are a comfortable mid to high twenties, so you won't sizzle like a Bunnings sausage under the typically hot summer sun.

Some recommendations for top spots to hit up this spring;

Glow Worm Tunnel; Wollemi National Park

  • Labeled as a walk that is great for beginners

  • Leads to an old mine that is absolutely full of glow worms (if you're like me and need a physical pay off at the end of exercise, this would be great for you!)

Bondi to Coogee walk

  • One of the most popular walks in Sydney for a good reason

  • Something that can be done on a whim if you're around the area

  • Stunning coastlines make for beautiful photo opportunities

  • Plenty of food stops along the way

What to wear?

Comfortable and breathable activewear!

You don't have to splurge on activewear for it to be comfortable AND cute! Places I love to buy from are CottonOn Body, Fila and Bonds.

Picnics

Spring is when the flowers are blooming, creating the perfect picturesque backdrop for a picnic with friends or a family. There are plenty of parks and reserves around Sydney for you to soak up some lovely midday sun with a group of 20 or less.

Barangaroo Reserve

  • BYO food and drinks; alcohol is also permitted

  • Lots of local food hubs and markets on the weekend to provide food

  • Short walk from Circular Quay station

  • Dog-friendly but NOT enclosed

  • Off-street parking (but I still recommend the train!)

  • Picturesque views of the harbour

Western Sydney Parklands; Plough Harrow

  • Popular picnic area with ample parking

  • Lots of shelters available for large groups

  • BBQs are free to use

  • Very kid friendly with lots of play equipment

  • Dog friendly but NOT enclosed

  • Cafe onsite

  • 3km walking tracks also available

What to wear?

Sun hats to keep your face, neck and shoulders protected from the harsh UV rays.

Sun dresses

Comfortable jeans and cute tops

Try and make sure they cover your shoulders as they are super sensitive to the sun

Sneakers or sandals

Neither areas are super hilly or dirty, but the walk from the train to Barangaroo might not be kind on sandals (the streets are quite old and bumpy.)

October Night Noodle Markets; dates TBC

Hosted by Good Food Month, the nighttime market returns for the 22nd time, offering amazing food from all over Asia. They have implemented new. initiatives (reduced capacities, no shared tables, staggered arrival and temperature checks) to keep the event safe for everyone.

Last year they even hosted a dog-friendly event! The markets are dog-friendly on other nights as well.

What to wear?

Stretchy pants/skirts

For all the food you'll be devouring!

Sneakers

Last year it was hosted in Hyde Park. The grass may not be friendly on non-closed-in shoes.

Light jacket

It won't be freezing cold, but it can be a little chilly in the city so it's best to come prepared!

Winery Hopping

As someone who loves a good bottle of red, this would have to be one of my favourite yearly past-times.

Previously having only been during the winter when the vines were barren, I was shocked when I made a trip up in the spring and saw beautiful green covering the vines. It's much cheaper to go in spring compared to summer when the grapes are actually growing.

There is plenty of wine country in this state, but the Hunter and Mudgee are probably two of the more well-known ones. It's essential you do lots of research before heading off into the different wineries, distilleries and cheese-makers in the areas.

Some excellent places to visit are:

Simply D'Vine Cafe; Wine Country Road, The Hunter

Amanda's on the Edge; McDonalds Road, The Hunter

Sabor Dessert Bar; Broke Road, The Hunter

Cade Kitchen & Bar, Cnr Perry and Market Street, Mudgee

What to wear?

Loose dresses/skirts

It can get quite hot up in wine country, especially if you go in late spring. It also makes for great photos in all the nice wineries.

Sneakers/boots

A lot of the time you'll be walking through gravel car parks to get into the winery itself so sneakers/boots are a comfortable bet

Small bags

You don't need to be lugging around a huge bag with you. All you need are your phone for those Insta shots and a card to pay with!

Light jacket

If you're still out at night, you'll need a little jacket to throw over your shoulders. It can drop from a sunny 30 degrees to an icy 20 in minutes.
