As a self-confessed shoe-aholic, I have tested well over 100 shoes in my time, some expensive investment pieces and the others being random things I bought off the internet on a whim. While many have not lasted, either due to being silly 'trend' pieces or for succumbing to natural wear and tear, there are a few that have lasted with me my entire working career or have been loved enough to be repurchased.

Countless blog posts detail what shoes you should have in your closet, and to some, this will be just another one of those. I'm hoping you will see this as informative.
Loafers
A good loafer is a timeless closet piece that can be worn for any occasion; whether to impress in the office or to explore a museum. A loafer is more polished than a regular flat and can add flair without distracting from the rest of your outfit. The ideal loafer is one with an elegant pointed toe in a chic neutral colour, but don't be afraid to try out funky patterns and embellishments.
Tony Bianco does classic loafers well in styles such as Teslar Capretto and Maddy Jetta in black leather, for $100 (on sale) and $180, respectively.
Novo has cheaper options, like Elegant, featuring a low block heel and a thick chain feature, for $69.95. There's also Cadenza which is labelled as a 'feminine take on the classic loafer', made of microsuede with gold hardware, for $59.95.

Pumps
When I think of pumps, I think of those classic Louboutins that I've always dreamed of owning, despite being a comfortable 5'9 in flats.
Classic pumps are a MUST for any woman. They are one of the most versatile heels on the market. Stocked in a range of colours, fabrics and heights, there is a perfect pump for everyone and it can take a look from day to night, or desk to dinner.
Suede is a lovely feminine touch for any shoe, seem in the Harold Black Microsuede from Verali (sold here) for $79.95. For a slightly altered (modern) take on the 'classic' pump, see these Spyglass Stilettos from ALDO for $99.00.
Looking for a statement pair? These brilliant yellow Eva High Heels from Jo Mercer ($199.95) have you covered.

Ankle Boots
A staple no matter where you live. Boots have gone through several 'trending phases' over the last few years, but you can never go wrong with a classic ankle boot. An everyday staple that provides comfort and a finishing touch to any outfit, especially during the cooler months.
Like a classic black boot? Tony Binaco does these well. Their Belle Luxe Ankle Boot is a cult-fav, with a pointed toe and a block heel for ultimate comfort. They retail for $219.95.
Feeling a bit braver? Look for sculptural heels or hardware for something a little different, like these Ankle Boots from Zara, featuring pearls, studs and buckles.
Don't think you have to opt for black. You can inject your wardrobe with prints or an unexpected finish to keep an old classic interesting and fresh. Zara offers interesting takes on the classic boot like these Animal Print Ankle Boots for $139.00.

Sneakers
A versatile street-wear go-to that can dress down even the most glamourous outfit in the most comfortable way. Fit for any season or occasion, having the perfect sneaker for all year round is a investment worth making.
If the fashion scene over the last decade has taught us anything it's that the 'in sneaker-style' can change within moments. One brand that sticks out is Lacoste, boasting 'clean low-profile designs' for a sport-meets-casual shoe. Check out their Graduate BL 1 for a comfortable everyday staple ($159.95).
Nike has dominated the sneaker scene for a long time, recently bringing a modern colour palette together with a timeless classic in the Nike Air Force 1 Sage for $155. Comfort and durability remain at the brand's core even in fashion-led collections.
Slides
Fan of this style or not, they seem to be sticking around for the long haul. Investing in a comfortable and stylish pair for out of the house is essential, as some styles of slide can become uncomfortable.
Birkenstock leads the way forward in comfrt with a footbed that moulds to the wearer and soft fleece layers to be kind to the skin. The Arizona Birko-Flor Regular retails for $139.00. If Birkenstocks are out of your budget, Steve Madden has a similar pair Brando retailing for $39 (on sale).
Looking for a fashion-forward pair that are still comfortable? Rollie's Madison Mule Flats in cheetah boast that they will let you 'run, jump, shop and even ride a bike in style' with premium soft leather to mould to the foot. Bonus: They are designed in Melbourne!
Don't forget home life either! Slides are a great alternative to the traditional slipper and you don't need to invest as much into these. Rubi Shoes offers cute indoor slides for great prices like these Wild Slide's for $13.99 on sale.
